Christmas ham FAQs
How long will my Christmas ham last?
Once opened, a whole or half leg ham on the bone will keep for up to 2 weeks in the fridge if stored correctly. A boneless or sliced ham is best enjoyed within 3–5 days.
What’s the best way to store Christmas ham?
Remove any plastic wrap and cover the ham with a clean ham bag, pillowcase, or tea towel soaked in a mix of 4 cups water and 2 tablespoons white vinegar. Wring it out well, wrap the ham, and store it in the coolest part of the fridge. Refresh the cloth every 2–3 days to keep it fresh.
Can I freeze leftover ham?
We don't recommend freezing leftover ham. Instead take a look at our recipes that incorporate your delicious leftover ham.
What can I make with leftover ham after Christmas?
There are endless ways to use it up — try ham and cheese toasties, pasta bakes, breakfast omelettes, frittatas, quiches, or hearty soups. You can also dice and freeze small portions for quick midweek meals. See our delicious recipes Ham, Mango and Macadamia Salad; Ham, Mustard and Leek Quiche and Ham, Brie and Cranberry French Toast to get you started.
What are some decorating tips for a beautiful Christmas ham?
For a show-stopping centrepiece, score the fat, brush with a glaze (like maple, mustard, or spiced marmalade or one of our delicious glaze recipes), and bake until golden and caramelised. Garnish with fresh herbs, citrus slices, or cherries for a festive finish.
